Plumes in Seattle, WA

My dear readers – I know I haven’t posted that much lately. But, don’t worry, I’m still seeing a lot of art! I hope to catch you up on some of it before year end.

I have an excuse though. As it turns out, I’ve been hard at work on, and completely consumed by my own art!

PLUMES, at Atelier New York, in Seattle, opened on October 17th. It was incredible to finally be able to share the work, and hugely gratifying to have so many people come out to the opening (and keep on coming).

“PLUMES is the first Seattle show and first ever solo exhibition by Seattle and New York-based ceramic artist, Ann Shure. Following up a sold-out show earlier this year at Missoula’s renowned, ceramics-focused, Radius Gallery, PLUMES features a broad selection of Shure’s ceramic “stacks.” From playful miniatures to towering seven-foot ceramic eruptions, PLUMES evokes the waterfalls, soaring columns, and striking geological outcroppings of Iceland, for which the works are named. Shure’s work showcases a wide range of clay types, firing, glazing and handbuilding techniques, which come together to form an overall body of cohesive, organic, and angular elegance.” (Atelier New York, Seattle. Some of the pieces have already begun to make their way to their permanent homes. Still, at least part of PLUMES will remain up until year end. If you’re in the Seattle area, please stop by Atelier.

I cannot count how many times I’ve been to Atelier since the show opened. I’ve taken friends who missed the opening, and this past week had the pleasure of taking my daughter who flew in from the East Coast to see the show. On one visit, I saw some young women taking selfies in front of my work. For someone who was a bit shy about emerging from my basement studio, I have to admit this has all been super fun.
